Follow the Signs
By Audrina Jones Bunton

A few weeks ago, my family and I enjoyed a weekend beach getaway with my brother and his family with wonderful weather, warm conversation and delightful seafood.

The weekend was extremely short, but significantly meaningful. As the weekend came to an end, and my brother and his family departed, we set out on our return trip back to North Carolina.

We rode for a while and then exited off the highway to stop at a store. After getting back on the highway to continue our journey, time passed and the numbers on the odometer continuously increased when my husband suddenly noticed that things were looking a bit strange and unfamiliar. He immediately searched for signs to indicate that we were going in the right direction.

After glancing in the rearview mirror, he noticed a sign that blatantly revealed that we were going in the wrong direction! As he anxiously searched for the nearest exit to re-route our journey, I silently reflected on the wasted time and miles that we had just incurred.

Finally, the exit emerged; we re-routed, and rode for what seemed like countless miles--until we noticed a familiar sign indicating that again, we were back on the right road. I lightly sighed as I felt instant relief in knowing that we were now headed back in the right direction.

Taking that exit, and then getting back on the road without paying sufficient attention to the road signs, totally put us off-course and delayed us by miles and minutes from reaching our destination.

Right now, there are signs in each of our lives indicating the direction in which we are going. There are signs specifying what the right direction is, and signs indicating when we are headed the wrong way.

What signs do you see that indicate you are traveling down the wrong road in your life? Your signs may indicate that you are working on the wrong job -- that you are in the wrong relationship -- or that your life is not fulfilling.

What signs should you follow to find yourself heading in the right direction on your life's journey? Following each sign will get you closer and closer to the desired destination.

Sometimes, following the signs that will lead you in the right direction may be cumbersome and the end my seem far-reaching -- but don't ignore the signs. Just as ignoring, the signs when traveling roads can be timely, costly, and sometimes fatal, so too can ignoring the signs when traveling your life's journey.

When you ignore your warning signs, you simply defer or even fail to reach your desired destination.

The next time you are traveling, and notice the road signs, whether during your daily commute, or on a trip -- think about the signs in your life. Think about the signs that may indicate that you are traveling down the wrong road. Down the road that is neither purposeful nor fulfilling in your life. Down the road, that is not your desired destination.

Do whatever it takes to re-route and get on your road of a purposeful and fulfilling life. To reach your destination my friend -- follow the signs in your life.

Think About It!!
"Alice came to a fork in the road. 'Which road do I take?' she asked. 'Where do you want to go?' responded the Cheshire cat. 'I don't know,' Alice answered. 'Then,' said the cat, 'it doesn't matter.'" -- Lewis Carroll
